This is for designers who are just starting out and are searching for jobs.

After speaking to a few founders of small startups, I learned that many young designers desire to work at big companies to grow.

I personally feel that designers in their early stages should start off working at smaller companies as โ€”

  • Small companies usually have fewer regulations, which gives them greater freedom in the work-life balance options they provide.
  • As everyone tends to wear several hats, working for a small firm may expose you to a far larger range of job duties which will in turn grow your skills and experience.
  • Small enterprises also often have less complexity, structure, and bureaucracy.
  • As an early designer, this will be incredibly advantageous as you can act rapidly on your ideas and explore without restriction.
  • You may expect clearer communication, quicker decision-making, and faster feedback as you will be working with a small close-knit team.
  • Your accomplishments will have a greater influence on the companyโ€™s overall strategy, direction, and goals.

As we are getting informed about a lot of recession among big companies, young designers should search for small start-up businesses so they can then expand their expertise and skills. It is easier for bigger companies to suspend pay raises and even resort to layoffs to cut costs during a recession. Hence It is preferable to try breaking through with small businesses.

Join a small startup and make it big instead of joining a big company.
