Why is it crucial to raise awareness about the design industry among school, college students and parents?

People working in an industry know about the design field’s existence, importance, and technicality.

But, many school, college students and parents are still unaware of it.

The younger generation is clueless about it as a career opportunity.

I believe it is our responsibility to take it to them.

I have been thinking about it for a long time.

So, this time I decided to take the responsibility — to help them.

Last week, I conducted an awareness program in an NGO present in st. Thomas road Chennai.

When I stepped in, looking at their faces, I was astonished.

They were energetic and eager to learn something new.

I was so happy looking at them.

Then I started to show slides and explain why to choose design as a career and how it can benefit you in the future.

After completing, I asked them, “Now tell me who all are interested in becoming a designer?”

Only 5 of them lifted their hands.

Others said they have some other plans for their future.

And some said we need time to think about it.

Yeah, I can understand them. They don’t have visibility on this.

Then I continued asking them a question — “What is design?”

Everyone shared their perspectives. I loved that!

Then I explained — “Everything is designed. Without design, there is no world.”

I illustrated my concept with some examples.

Shared the perspective of “how people got inspired from nature?”

Broke some myths that prevail in the design industry.

Shared facts.

I wanted them to clearly see how the design industry runs.

To help them build their career, I dedicatedly prepared a slide containing information about how to enter the design industry.

I spoke about the future of design. How the design industry will play a crucial role in the upcoming improvements.

Then finally wrapping up, They asked some questions, and I answered those.

On the whole, It was an excellent interactive session. I loved it.

It gave me a sense of fulfilment.

Now, I want to feel the same adrenaline rush.

So, I am going to continue doing it.
