The Mind-Body Connection & the Importance of Form
I’ve been maintaining my fitness consistently for a few years now, and I’ve seen significant changes in my mental health.
These are some of the things which I realized how it helps you get a healthier mind :
- The first thing I want to mention about fitness is that it builds discipline, and resilience and increases energy levels. The key is to be consistent.
- Fitness enhances the brain to have a better memory and improves your active and creative thinking skills. Neural and psychological sciences research tells that strengthening our psychological fitness enables us to perform better.
- It helps us stay positive and it also improves cognitive functioning.
- It can make your brain more sensitive to joy.
- It makes you brave (Taking decisions).
- Fitness can transform your self-image.
And many people have asked me this question, “How do you manage time for the gym?”
It’s not about time, it’s about which one to prioritize first. I have chosen this.
Start small. Be consistent.
I have another small story about how maintaining your form while working out is very important.
I usually hit the gym in the evening. One day, while doing back-shoulder workouts, I was too involved in my training and started to add more weights.
My trainer noticed it and a couple of minutes later, he stopped me and said that I’m missing the form.
I was confused.
He then explained, “Putting on too much weight is of no use. You can attain the gesture you want even by coping with low weights. The question to be asked is, do you form the right muscle?
You are doing exercises for the back and shoulders, but your triceps are working. You have to cling to the form to build the required muscles. Once he corrected my mistakes, I completed the day’s workout and came back home.
But, even after returning, I can’t stop thinking about the phrase — “form and function.”
I felt that it resonates with the design industry too. If the design looks perfect, it will do great. But it’s just a myth.
Form and Function are both essential aspects of design. Form leads to how it looks, and Function leads to how it works.
It’s a principle of design.
