Have you ever felt nervous about joining a company as a new designer?

It’s completely normal to feel anxious when starting a new job as a designer. Here are a few tips that may help you to ease your anxiety and build confidence in your new role:

✅ Remember that you were hired for a reason: Your employer saw potential in you and believed that you had the necessary skills and qualifications to succeed as a designer. Have confidence in yourself and your abilities.

✅ Research the company: Before you start working for a company, you should research its history, mission, and values. This will help you understand the company’s culture and how you can fit into it.

✅ Get to know your colleagues: Building positive relationships with your coworkers can help you feel more comfortable in your new environment. Take the time to introduce yourself and learn about their roles and experiences. A good rapport is one of the best things you can do.

✅ Understand the sub-functions: Most companies have different sub-functions, such as marketing, sales, and design. Understanding how these functions work together can help you better understand your role within the company.

✅ Meet the design team: As a designer, it is important to get to know your team members. Schedule a meeting with your design team and introduce yourself. Learn about their roles and responsibilities, their design process, and any current projects they are working on.

✅ Ask questions: Don’t be afraid to ask your colleagues, peers or manager for help if you need it. Everyone has been new to a job at some point and understands that there is a learning curve.

✅ Set realistic expectations: It’s important to recognize that it may take time to fully adjust to your new role and feel confident in your work. Set achievable goals for yourself and celebrate your accomplishments along the way.

✅ Practice self-care: Taking care of your physical and mental health is important, especially during a time of transition. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, exercise, and nutritious food, and find ways to manage stress such as meditation or journaling.

Remember, feeling anxious as a new designer is completely normal. With time, you will gain experience, build relationships, and feel more comfortable in your new role.
